This is a beautiful old tine box from Norway, with beautiful banding around the box and a very very long clasp that pulls out to open the box. (see pictures) The box is 8" long but to the end of the clasp, is 10" long. It is 6 3/4" tall and 6" from front to back. I have never seen one this unusual with the wonderful banding around it. Note also the way the banding meets and is finished off. It is amazing. There is a solid wood bottom and the base box is built like a stave bucket, the finished with the great bands. We purchased this wonderful svepask box because of the beautiful painting on
the lid. It is a wonderful Swedish blue with flowers that almost demand that
you stop to pause and enjoy the aroma and the scent. There are words on the
bottom which say, "av Lars Julen 1968". This svepask is much older than
1968, and we believe it was given as a gift on this date, many years after
someone very creatively made it. It is 7 3/4" tall, and  the top is 8" X 8
1/2" oval.

Keepsake Boxes

 

 

Keepsake boxes, old and new.  The blue marble painted box was made in Sweden in 1996.  (Artist name and date carved on back side.) The wood tone antique box is dated 1916, has marbled sides and six compartments inside.  (Artist name and date written on back side.)  These both would be wonderful storage containers, but as seen in the pictures, would make great decorative pieces on their own.  Add to a collection, or use alone!
