This book gives a fantastic overview of the history of the Dala Horse and its modern manufacturing. It has beautiful images and is very informative, as well as entertaining.

This book is no longer in print, either in Swedish or English, (this is the Swedish version) and is a collectible in itself. The copies we have of this book were acquired in Sweden, and finding another will prove to be very difficult! 208 pages.

Dala Horse Collector's Set

The horses are virtually identical, but do have small differences as each was handmade and hand painted by a different artist. Each is made unique by a collectible lot number, which is painted on its belly. These make it easier to keep track of how many were manufactured, and who painted and carved them. They were sold at an auction in the Dalarna region of Sweden in 1988, and have such unique style, color and shape. These horses would make a great exclusive collection together, or can be purchased individually. Enjoy!

Bright Blue Dala

7 inches tall. Great colors and character. This might be the prettiest blue I have seen on a Dala Horse! A few character marks to mention; there is a crack on right side, (integrity of horse is not altered, though) one ear is nicked, and paint has been worn off in some places. Handmade, vintage. Rocking Dala with beautiful Rosemaling

This wooden Rocking Horse is 13 inches tall and 12 inches long , and is about the perfect size for a doll! It is white with beautiful blue rosemaling, and has an actual seat and handles. This horse is in great shape, with a few minor chips of paint missing on the bottom of the rocker. Otherwise perfect! Please email any questions!

A Dala Horse with a history! This Dala has been through a lot in his life, and has quite charming characteristics to show it! His head has been reattached, (this Dala was most likely a child's toy in the past) and he has a few slight burn marks on his sides, probably from being left too close to a candle! The finish on this Dala horse has worn wonderfully, with traditional "kurbits" painting and the blue dots that are characteristic of so many of the old white Dalas! 5 1/2 inches tall. Exact age unknown.

This is an old Gemla Swedish horse made in the Gemla factory in the early 20th century. It is 8 3/4" long, and 10 1/2" tall, with split ears and the mottled grey and white appaloosa type painting on the body. It is in fair condition for it's age and as usual in our business, a one only. Enjoy!

These 2 very rare and special horses are from Hälsingland in Sweden and are from my personal collection, having been purchased from a special collector who lives in Hälsingland. The smaller one is from the late 1800s and is 2 5/8" high. The fatter one, is from the 1940s , is 3 1/8" and with a wider nose. Look closely at the tiny narrow nose of the smaller one, that is a trademark of older ones and especially the Hälsingland ones. They have no decoration, only the wonderful splash of color that is made from the powder of iron ore, which is mined in Sweden. We welcome your questions , these are for the serious dala horse collector. They are in good condition. there is one tiny splinter missing from the ear of the largest horse, but not a problem. We would repair this if you wished, but we are selling these , as found, in the home of an collector of all things from his province. Enjoy and email please any questions which we will try to answer. This is a very rare and wonderful set of 3 old, old dala horses from Sweden. These are collector horses and so rare and hard to find. The largest one , with the old white paint, is the most rare and wonderful, even with the mended head. He is 6 3/4" tall, and 6 1/2" long and from the 1800s. The largest blue one is 6" tall and 6" long and is from the early 1900s. The smallest darker blue one is from the 1920s with a very skinny head and old wonderful paint, and this one is 5 1/2" tall, 5 1/4" long. Please email any questions

This is a very sweet and very fancy dala horse which we purchased in Sweden in 2003. It is designer made and signed on the bottom with the number, date and name of artist. This is no. 6. He is very sweet and super new and in great condition. The color of blue is outstanding and with the gold tail and mane, he is one outstanding horses from Sweden and for the collector. WE purchased this at the Öland museum in Sweden, a replica of a soldier from long ago. On the bottom , it says "Kopia ar Fargos Ryttarre", nr. 69, and the artists name BCrandall, and it also says the price, 490 SEK, (this equals about $70.00). It is well done and hand painted with a very regal look. It is 10" tall and 7" long. We would hope that someone whose heritage is from Öland to be able to purchase this to enjoy. thanks.

Child's hobby horse from Sweden, circa early 1900s, this horse is in good condition and can be ridden without any repair. It is 26" long and 26" tall. On our last buying trip, we found one of these and it lasted on the website 3 days. smile. This is extremely rare and the only one we have like this. We do have a rocking horse on our website a bit different than this one but both of these are old and wonderful and from Sweden, enjoy.

Circa 1870 , this large rocking horse is from the Gemla Toy Factory , which operated in Southern Sweden from 1850 to 1920, and is a wonderful example of their work. The factory was named after the town in which it was located, in Gemla, Sweden. The rockers are 44" long and the horse is 26" long and 26" high. There is one stirrup missing and there has been some repair to the rockers.

This is a wonderful old Swedish dala horse and cart which has been in our personal collection for many many years. It is outstanding and most unusual. It is 14 3/8" long, and 6 1/2" wide at the rear wheel base. The horse is done in a mottled gray paint, made in the Gemla Factory in Sweden. Note the split ears and the brush tail. This is a wonderful old dala horse which we found on our buying trip and were thrilled to find him. He has the very unusual paint of blue dots which form flowers.
